Time Tracking, version 3

I was turned onto time tracking a few months ago by Sebastian Marshall. Overall, I’ve found it tremendously helpful. It’s a fantastic system to not only keep you on track, but it really does increase (my) productivity. But, the my old time tracking template will no longer cut it. For the last few months, I’ve had quite an abundance of time and many goals I wanted to accomplish. But, for the next 8 weeks, I have a singular goal: pass the bar. All of the projects I have been working on are pretty much on hold while I study for the three days of misery at the end of July.

So, it was time for a new template:

Time Track, version 3.0Simple. To the point. I don’t want to be thinking about too much else right now. This seems to be working pretty well, but my template is constantly being tweaked.

Very nice. Yeah, I like keeping it simple too. For me, there’s kind of an ebb and flow – I’ll build out and expand for a while, then I’ll cut/simplify down if I no longer need to monitor something or it’s just not working in that area.

One thing to consider that I’ve gotten huge mileage out of – maybe try adding in some “end of day review” things. I have two basic questions on mine that I spend maybe 20-40 seconds on:

What did I do right to move me towards my goals?
What would I do differently if I had the day to live over?

I really don’t obsess, I just make a couple notes. It helps with identifying good days, and staying out of ruts. Something to consider adding next time you tweak your template. Cheers,

      Thanks Sebastian,

Those two questions were on my old template. I’ve found them quite valuable.

For this one, the things that are moving me toward my only goal of the moment (passing the bar) are all listed under production. So, I thought it was kind of redundant to put it again at the end.

I guess I could keep the “what would you do differently” question, but since I’m so focused on one goal, the answer to that question will almost entirely depend on whether I accomplished the production goals. So in a sense, for my purposes now, I felt it would be kind of redundant again.

Thanks again for getting me hooked on time tracking 🙂
